Fastest to 100 Wickets in IPL
Taking 100 wickets in IPL is an outstanding achievement. More than 20 players, including overseas and domestic players, have crossed the 100-wicket milestone. Rabada is the quickest, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal are the joint-fastest among Indian players.
Here are the top five bowlers quickest to 100 wickets in IPL:
Players | Matches |
Kagiso Rabada | 64 |
Lasith Malinga | 70 |
Bhuvneshwar Kumar | 81 |
Harshal Patel | 81 |
Kagiso Rabada (64 matches):
Rabada holds the record for the fastest wickets in IPL. He took just 64 matches to achieve the feat. The fast bowler debuted in IPL in 2017 after Delhi Daredevils bought him for ₹5 crore in the auction. He played just six matches in his first season and had to sit out the following season due to an injury. But Rabada came back roaring, picking up 25 wickets in 2019. He took 30 wickets and grabbed the Purple Cap in the 2020 season. In the 2022 mega auction, Rabada was bought by Punjab Kings. The 28-year-old took 28 wickets in first season with the Mohali-based outfit and completed 100 IPL wickets in 2023.
Lasith Malinga (70 matches):
Unarguably the most unorthodox pacer in the initial years of the IPL, Malinga has made immense impact since his debut in 2009. He became a premium pacer of Mumbai Indians in no time and was a nightmare for batters. The Sri Lankan, first to 100 wickets in IPL, won the Purple Cap in 2011 after picking up 28 wickets and is also the first Mumbai Indians player to grab a five-wicket haul. He took his 100th wicket in his 70th match and was fastest to the 100-wicket milestone then. Malinga’s record stood for almost ten years.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (81 matches):
White-ball specialist Bhuvneshwar Kumar is third in the list of quickest to 100 wickets in IPL. He reached the three-figure mark in 81 matches and is the joint-fastest Indian to do so. The 33-year-old, who played his first IPL game in 2011, grabbed the limelight in the 2014 season, taking 20 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He became consistent ever since and won the Purple Cap in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In 2017, the fast bowler crossed 100 wickets, joining an elite club of bowlers in IPL.
Harshal Patel (81 matches):
Patel has an interesting IPL career. He debuted with Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2012 and struggled with consistency and game time. In the 2018 season, the medium-pacer joined Delhi Daredevils, but his fortunes didn’t change. During the eight seasons, he took just 46 wickets from 48 games. However, rejoining the Bengaluru outfit was a game changer for him. He took a hat-trick and won the Purple Cap in the 2021 season. In the 2023 season, he crossed 100 wickets in 81 matches. Patel is the joint-fastest Indian to 100 scalps in IPL.
